Tile Cleaning & Repair of Winston Salem

Tile and grout require regular cleaning and maintenance to keep its appearance. Whether you have flooring that’s beginning to wear from age or have inherited a floor that needs some TLC, we can help.

At The Groutsmith, we use our proprietary line of professional products to clean and restore floor tile and grout to like-new condition. We’re tile and grout experts and we never use harsh chemicals or improper cleaning practices or equipment that can damage your tiles or grout.

Also, overtime, tiles can become chipped, cracked, or broken. Sometimes you may damage tile on purpose, such as when the tile is being pulled up from the floor to remove from a space. Other tile damage can be accidental and caused by things like dropping heavy objects on tile floors or standing in one spot for too long and cracking tiles beneath your feet.

Tile Cleaning & Repair FAQS:

WHY SHOULD I GET TILE AND GROUT PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED?

High traffic gradually dulls the floors and the grout becomes dark with dirt. Regular mopping only removes surface-level dirt.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO GET MY TILE AND GROUT PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED?

To keep the tile floors in your property looking their best, we recommend having them professionally cleaned every year, depending on the amount of traffic, soil and regular floor maintenance.

WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO WALK ON MY FLOORS AFTER A TILE AND GROUT CLEANING?

Stay off of freshly cleaned tile floors for at least 30 minutes. Avoid getting any liquid on the floor for 24 hours until the sealant cures completely if grout sealing is included as part of the service.

HOW HARD IS IT TO REMOVE TILE FLOORING?

It really depends. The key determining factor is what’s underneath. It could be cement, some kind of underlay like plywood or mason board, or even another layer of flooring.

The type of surface that the material is bonded to can make it pretty easy to rip up, or a total nightmare—and you usually don’t know which until you’ve gotten started. Even in the best circumstances, removing tile is a lot of hard labor that can take anywhere from a few hours to several days.

HOW DO YOU REPAIR CRACKED TILE WITHOUT REPLACING IT?

If we’re talking about surface-level damage like a hairline crack, you can try a process similar to what we described above for chips, or you can attempt to disguise the damage with paint for some types of materials. But, that tile will still be weak and vulnerable to more serious damage.

For bigger cracks, it pretty much needs to be replaced. That’s why it’s best to ensure you have extra tile for a perfect match. If you don’t have extra pieces or a good match, then a non-matching tile will have to be used.

Benefits of Tile Restoration

Restoring tile will increase the durability of the floors in a cost-effective manner. It will also revive the original glossy appearance and maintain the aesthetic of the space. Here are the benefits of cleaning and restoring tile:

  • Keeps the Beauty of the Tile.
  • Enhances Your Living Area.
  • Eliminates Bacteria and Mold Growth.
  • Helps Avoid Tile Replacement.
  • Increased Durability.
  • More Cost Effective Than Replacing.
  • Restore the Glossy Appearance.
  • Maintain Character and Aesthetic.
  • Extends the Life of the Tile.
  • Get Clean and Attractive Grout.

Over time, tile surfaces and floors lose their luster and shine. Unfortunately, mopping and scrubbing will not be enough to achieve a clean surface. Since grout is porous and easily absorbs all debris and dirt, these cleaning methods will only remove the surface soil and not the embedded dirt.

Eventually, mold and mildew will build-up on the surface of your tiles and grout, which will of course affect its appearance. These unhealthy irritants create an unhygienic surface that cultivates bacteria and germs. Simple cleaning methods can’t and won’t clean your floor and walls completely. This is why it is so important to have your tile and grout professionally cleaned.
